Please note that due to the current coronavirus pandemic we will not be issuing early, extra or additional prescriptions in line with local guidance and advice. We are also strongly encouraging the use of Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) for all our prescriptions and ordering via our online service providers to help reduce the risk of handling paper prescriptions.

The best way to request a repeat prescription is Online. Our Online Services can help you request repeat medication at your convenience with automated delivery of your prescription to your preferred pharmacy.

FAQs

Do I need to Register every time I request a prescription?

No, this only needs to be done the first time that you use the service. When collecting login details please bring a form of ID with you

Will I receive an email confirming receipt of my request?

No, you will not receive an email, but the system stores a history of everything you ordered.

Can I use my email address for more than one family member?

To keep patient's records secure each patient will need their own login and password.

Why can I not see all my medication on the repeat medication list?

The doctor who prescribed your medication will decide whether it will be listed as a repeat medication on your records. This is a safety issue to ensure you are reviewed appropriately before any further medication is prescribed for you. If it is appropriate for you to order further prescriptions of the medication online it will be available for you to see and order when you login.

How long will my prescription take to be issued?

We do ask that you allow 2 working days for prescription requests.

Please remember it will also take the pharmacy time to check & dispense your medication on top of this timeline.

Private Prescriptions

The cost of a private prescription is met wholly by the patient & is dictated by the cost of the medicine, the pharmacists charge & current charge of £15 to the surgery for their administration fee.

It is at the GP’s discretion to provide a private prescription, however these may be routinely offered in certain circumstances where medication is not covered by the NHS, eg “just in case” medications when travelling abroad or sedative medication required for flying.

What is a dossette box?

Those patients taking multiple medications & with disabilities etc that prevent them from being able to use regular boxed medications may benefit from a dossette (Nomad) box supplied by the pharmacy. Please ask you pharmacist if you qualify for this service & if they have the capacity to provide this for you.

Medical Reviews

The NHS requires that all patients taking a regular medication will need to be reviewed on these at least annually by a clinician, this could be a GP, clinical pharmacist or practice nurse. Some patients will need more regular reviews, this could be due to a change in strength of medication or a change in a patients health.

As part of your review, please have a list of questions that you might wish to ask about your medication. Inform your doctor of any changes in your health or medication (including those bought over the counter) that might have occurred since the last time you visited.

When you go for hospital appointments take your medicines and your repeat ‘request slip’ along with you. It will help the medical staff understand more about your condition and treatment.

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication
